Updated Ace to the newest build release.
Append "monospace" to the end of the font stack so that typos don't completely break rendering. Yes, we should have done this four years ago.
We now test custom font family settings when user preferences are changed, and display a warning when a non-monospace font is detected (as this makes Ace freak out). You're still allowed to use that font, because maybe you know something we don't. But hopefully this will slow the constant stream of "my cursor doesn't work" support messages I get.
Fix a bug with update notifications on launch, where we just fired them every single time.
Introduced additional options for update notifications. You can set the updateNotification preference in your user.json to be "background" (the default), "launch" (shows only when Caret is opened), or "silent" (never show notifications). This preference is synchronized across machines.
Added Italian translation.
You can override settings on a per-syntax basis now, by adding values to the syntaxSpecific
object in your user config. Not everything can be set this way, but the important stuff (tabs or spaces, indentation size, and word wrap limit) is supported right now. The default user settings have an example for Python, feel free to add your own.
This is a minor version bump, but the underlying code changes are significant: with this version, Caret has shifted most of its code from a callback-based API to the new async/await
keywords that shipped in Chrome 55 last year. This cleans up a lot of code patterns that previously required deep function nesting and the helper functions from our "Manos" concurrency module. To complete the transition, a shim for the Chrome APIs is used wherever possible, located in util/chromePromise.js
.
This release also removes the "dom2" module that has been used by Caret to patch in jQuery-like functionality since its inception. At this point, the DOM and its accompanying data structures (like the NodeLists returned by querySelectorAll
) are rich enough that it's not needed, and it imposed a barrier to new contributors. This change is long overdue.
However, between these two changes, almost anything involving storage and the file system has been rewritten, and bugs may have been introduced despite my best efforts to test. I know many of you use Caret for work or education, and I take that responsibility seriously. Please reach out or file issues on GitHub whenever you notice something broken, and I'll fix them as fast as I can.
Fix some possible bugs with fonts, and with a hairline border in fullscreen mode.
Enabled Kotlin support.
Fixed a bug where the middle-click wouldn't close tabs. Updated translations. Added a "kill line" command if you just can't live without it. Added new JavaScript extensions (.mjs and .gs).
Updated Ace. Fixed a bug with the JSHint worker (thanks, null-dynamic-exception!). Removed custom themes. You should now be able to reassign the Esc key so that it won't exit fullscreen mode.
You can now resize the project panel, thanks to some great work from Konstantin (thanks!). This only works if autohide is not set.
Added support for custom JSHint options (Thanks, Matt!). Set the jsHint
property in your user preferences to send configuration to JSHint. You may need to toggle useWorker
off and on to trigger the changes.
Added a toggle (showHiddenDirectories
) to display dot-prefixed directories in the project manager (disabled by default).
File extension for syntax detection is now case-insensitive. Added 4th
as a valid Forth extension.
Fix a bug where closing a settings file (like the user preferences) would always to try to save the file to the drive instead of to synchronized storage where it's supposed to go.
Fixed a bug where directories with the same name couldn't be added as projects directories. Switched to a changelog on GitHub (here!) not in the web store.
Adds the ability to fire command sequences.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: This version also begins to deprecate custom themes. If you have custom themes, they are going away soon.
Fixes an issue with the search bar when there are many top-level entries in a project.
Fixed the spelling of reStructuredText. Remove wildcards from the manifest, which should stop Caret from opening .zip files.
Updated Ace to version 1.2.3, which enables the reStructured Text syntax mode.
Enabled many of those new syntax modes with their own extensions, and added coloring to the search results. NOTE: this version introduces a big change to the way that we register for file handlers on Chrome OS. If you notice that you're no longer seeing Caret in the list of applications when you try to open a file from Files, please file a bug or send me a support request. Thanks!
Added a ton of new syntax modes and file extensions. Fixed more tab overflow bugs--eventually, we'll get them all.
Add syntax highlighting for .phtml files. Fix an annoying tab overflow issue again.
Project search now maintains a history of past searches using the up/down keys. Fix some bugs with the project listing and ignoreFiles settings. Added .vb and .vba extensions for Visual Basic syntax.
Project search results are now clickable jump links, and fix some minor bugs with the search process.
I'm thrilled to announce that I was wrong, and that project-wide search (including unopened files) has come to Caret, thanks to a lovely contribution by @brismuth. With that in mind, I've bumped it to 1.6, since this will form the basis for a number of much-requested features, including a replacement for Ace's anemic search widget.
