There are some ESP32 modules on the market that can control the outdoor unit (fan speed, compressor power etc.) without necessity of having an indoor unit/electronics. It's often used by enthusiasts that convert external units to heat pump by adding heat exchanger.

Does this project even plan to support such use case?

It all comes down to whether it has an S21 or X50A or X403A connector or not. If it does, maybe.

With VRV/Skyair systems, they use F1F2 bus, It same with P1P2 but no public document available. If you know specific module list it here.
