Greek upsilon wrongly transliterated as 'y'

What happened?

I have a book whose title is in modern Greek and whose editor has a last name of Ξανθοπούλου (the suffix is a pretty common one in Greek surnames). Convention is for that to be transliterated as Xanthopoulou, not Xanthopoyloy, as has been done. In some systems, a stand-alone υ might be expressed with a y, but the combination of ου is always ou.

Would Ksanthopoulou be an acceptable transliteration?

The ou (ου) problem is solved, but now the initial ksi (ξ) wrongly becomes ks. Also to watch out for in any solution are word-initial Μπ and Ντ, which become, B and D, respectively.

I'm not an expert on this, but it seems like the ELOT standard is the one you want. Wikipedia has a nice table and some links.

I don't do the transliteration myself. I previously used https://github.com/dzcpy/transliteration, for this issue I switched to https://github.com/FGRibreau/node-unidecode because that has more recent updates so seems better maintained. I've opened an issue at FGRibreau/node-unidecode#32. If you come across something better I'm entirely open to that.

The author says "pull request welcome". I use these libraries so I don't have to worry about translit, it would take time I don't have to even understand how it works under the hood. If you can convince the library owner to make the change I will adopt it. That is unfortunately the limit of what I can do here.

I'm not sure this is the best method for handling this kind of thing, given the contextual issues mentioned above, but at least the PR fixes the immediate issue.
