Won't it be a problem to inject <link rel="canonical" href="{{ canonical_url|e }}{{ canonical_page }}" /> if it's already defined previously by the theme?
A canonical URL such as
<link rel="canonical" href="https://docs.readthedocs.io/en/stable/index.html" />
is already inserted in themes.However, this extension proposes to add it again.
