Hi @rampaa, thank you very much for your works!

Currently when importing dictionaries, I can see the furigana/hiragana, but is there an option to play voice files (assuming I have the corresponding files) ?

  • You can add additional audio sources through the Manage audio sources window. By default, it includes JapanesePod101 as an audio source. To learn more about the audio sources supported by JL and how to add them, you could have clicked on the info button in the Add Audio Source window, which would display the following:

  • Enabling Preferences -> General -> Auto play makes JL automatically play the audio for the first reading of the top lookup result on every lookup, using the first active audio source specified in Manage audio sources window.
  • Enabling Preferences -> Main Window -> Text to speech on text change makes JL read the text in the main window aloud using the first active TTS voice specified in the Manage audio sources window every time the text of the main window changes.
  • Pressing the Preferences -> Hotkeys -> Play audio hotkey makes JL play the audio for the first reading of the top lookup result, using the first active audio source specified in Manage audio sources window.
  • Pressing the Preferences -> Hotkeys -> ??? hotkey makes life more tolerable for a short time. If you’ve never pressed it before, you might want to reconsider your life choices.
  • Pressing the Preferences -> Hotkeys -> Selected text to speech hotkey makes JL read the selected text aloud using the first active TTS voice specified in the Manage audio sources window.
  • Specifying Audio for an Anki field will make JL place the audio for the first reading of the word you're trying to mine into that field, using the first active audio source specified in Manage audio sources window.
  • You can also play the audio for a specific reading of a specific lookup result by pressing the 🔊 icon (and selecting the specific reading you want to listen to, if there is more than one reading for that result) while in mining mode. See:

I think most of these features would be fairly obvious to discover on your own if you spent a bit of time fiddling with JL and reading the available preferences. I wish all JL users would do that, as it would help them discover all the features JL currently has to offer. But that's probably too much to ask, and most of JL's features are fated to go unnoticed by most of its user base. Meh.
