Prevent apps from un-hiding the Start Menu

It would be awesome if something could be written that would prevent applications from unhiding the Start menu. I use the menu on the left side of the display, and every time an app (Teams is the worst offender) has an alert, it unhides the menu and highlights the app menu entry, covering up everything underneath it. It will stay this way until it's clicked on.
This is infuriating UI behavior. I will read msgs when I'm ready; don't cover up my display until then.
