I just wanted to join the Quran community but I noticed it is on Discord. While Discord has many advantages but it is closed source software and also bans people from many countries including my country which is Iran.
Matrix is a federated IM platform. I agree many of its apps or "clients" are not as mature as Discord but still very good.
You can host your own Matrix server with synapse if you've got enough resources and federate with the other servers.
In the case which you want to stay on Discord, I suggest that you create a "space" on matrix and with many "rooms" inside and bridge Matrix and Discord together either using a hosted or self hosted bridge.
