Rendering checkbox within a table cell is not working

Thanks so much for all the effort and the great features that your plugin enables, I use it on a daily basis and can't thank you enough on how much nicer it makes it to work with Markdown because of it!

I do have one question however when it comes to using checkboxes inside a table cell, it simply will not render it? Is there any particular syntax to make this work?

Consider this relatively simple table:

Column1	Column2	Column3
Hello	World	[ ]
Hello	World	[x]
Hello	World	- [ ]
Hello	World	- [x]

None of them are rendering the checkbox in VS Code:

Kindly let me know whether this is supported and if so, how to properly enable this feature. If not, is this a reasonable request to have added as a feature?
