Request: The Ability To Renumber Tab Groups #136
Comments
Do you mean reordering them for when when using the hotkeys? |
What I mean is that I have all these groups on the "Active Group" page and I deleted a few and now the sequence numbers are fouled, meaning I have gaps in the numbering of the groups. This makes it hard to keep them in order. I never use the hotkeys but that may be a correct assumption on your part. |

For some reason that never occured to me.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you mean with the "Active Group" page and the sequence numbers. |
Perhaps a poor choice of words, I meant the Panorama view that can be opened to select a group to make active. In it the groups are numbered and can be named.

Let me back up. It does have to do with advancing through the tab groups using the hotkeys. If I use alt+w to change groups, then if had the ability to renumber the groups I can change their selection order.

I see, thank you. Indeed being able to reorder the groups for the hotkey selection would be very useful. |
Thanks, Sorry I had a bit of difficulty explaining it.

I am a bit confused. I have been using Panorama Tab Groups, I now notice that this Feature Request is listed in Panorama View. Please enlighten me with respect to the functional differences/similarities, and which I should be using to get the maximum benefit. I currently use PTG to organize my browser tags into interests/subjects. Secondly what disaster will I experience if I switched from PTG to PV, or can both coexist? I am a bit wary of making a change due to the number of groups I have in play, even though I have backups. Thanks again for a truly useful addon. I looks as though PTG's last update was in May 2020 and PV's was Feb 2023 but the writeup I found was that PTG was an updated fork of PV - Like I said I'm confused. |
My work on this add-on (PV) has always been pretty slow, simply because it's a personal project I mostly make for myself. I do still occasionally work on Panorama View, but I don't have that much time. I just tried switching from PTG to PV with a new Firefox profile and it seemed to work fine.
Please be careful if you try this, as having both add-ons active at the same time gets messy. |
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I switched over and think the difference makes it better for my purpose.Your add-ons are the best quality I have used, your attention to details and maintenance show how much pride you havein it.

I think the reason it was forked (PTG) was to make development faster and add more features.

What I did was this:
- Save a backup in PTG
- Disable PTG
- Search for and install PV
- Open backup in PV
Please be careful if you try this, as having both add-ons active at the same time gets messy.

Love the App, been using it for a while now and had to delete some groups. I come to find there is no way to manually renumber for the purpose of reordering them.
Thank you for such a great app, I really appreciate it, and you for developing it.
