Google may be leaning towards deprecating (or replacing) chrome.serial eventually.

Related to, or in addition to, that, if chrome.serial.getDevices() suddenly errors out, wireless devices will also not be found and communicated to the editor since sendPortList() relies on chrome.serial.getDevices() working.

NOTE: This has already been tested on a device with no serial ports; it currently continues to work properly.
