Hi all,
As you may know, one of the decisions in the EdgeX 3.0 / Minnesota planning meetings was that continued support and delivery of the EdgeX CLI for EdgeX 3.0 onwards would depend on demand and also the availability of people to work on it.
Results of the request for feedback on the usage of the tooling, suggests that the CLI is not used by all adopters, and therefore its priority naturally falls below some of the other bigger ticket items for this release, for example the updated common configuration for EdgeX and the microservice authentication packages.
Given the time and availability of the EdgeX developer community that at least I’m aware of, this means that the EdgeX CLI is not expected to be brought forward to EdgeX 3.0 and therefore will be deprecated.
However, we would of course be delighted for volunteers to step forward and offer their time and skills to update and maintain the CLI. Please reach out to me if you are interested. I think this would be a good opportunity for any developers looking to get started with contributions to EdgeX.
Update: The TSC indeed voted to confirm the archival of the EdgeX CLI on 23rd May 2023 and therefore it was not brought forward to EdgeX V3.
Thanks!
James Butcher,
EdgeX TSC Chair
