I am writing to propose the implementation of a two-thirds (66.67%) super majority voting requirement for all proposals that are presented before the finalization of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) constitution. The purpose of this proposal is to ensure that significant decisions made during the formation of a governing document are supported by a strong consensus among DAO members. By requiring a super majority vote, we can be confident that the decisions made in this critical period are representative of the collective will and that they will provide a solid foundation for the governance of our DAO.
Background
During the drafting and approval of a DAO constitution, numerous proposals may be brought forward to address various aspects of governance, including the structure of the organization, the rights of members, and the processes for decision-making. These proposals can have far-reaching implications for the functioning of the DAO and the rights and responsibilities of its members.
Given the significance of these decisions, it is essential that they are made with the broadest possible support. A simple majority vote may not sufficiently reflect the collective will, as it allows for the possibility that nearly half of the members disagree with the decision. This can lead to fragmentation and instability in the long run, undermining the very purpose of the DAO constitution.
Proposal
To address this concern, I propose the following:
Implement a two-thirds (66.67%) super majority voting requirement for all proposals presented before the finalization of the DAO constitution. This threshold will ensure a strong consensus among members while remaining attainable for critical decisions.
Clearly define the scope of proposals subject to the super majority voting requirement. This may include proposals related to the fundamental structure of the DAO, the distribution of powers, the protection of member rights, and the processes for amending the constitution.
Establish a transparent and inclusive process for the presentation, discussion, and voting on proposals. This may involve creating a dedicated platform or forum for members to engage in constructive dialogue and debate on the merits of each proposal.
Ensure that all DAO members are adequately informed about the proposals and the voting process, and that they have sufficient time to consider and discuss the implications of each proposal before casting their vote.
After the DAO constitution is finalized, revert to a simple majority voting requirement for subsequent decisions, unless otherwise specified by the constitution itself.
By implementing a two-thirds super majority voting requirement for pre-constitution proposals, we can help to foster a stronger sense of unity and consensus during the critical period of DAO constitution drafting. This will ultimately contribute to the creation of a more stable and effective governing framework, which will serve our DAO well in the years to come.
Thank you for considering this proposal. I am happy to discuss it further and provide any additional information that may be necessary to facilitate its implementation.
