use Window->Panels->Features->Hamburger->Add Auto Features

N.B. Use Update Auto Features to ensure that new additions get added

 Use + and Character Variant to add cv to features; then Update Auto again to get cv01 added to aalt

font-feature-settings: "ss01";

font-feature-settings: "salt"; -- selects alternate 1

font-feature-settings: "salt" 2; -- selects alternate 2

For ligatures; Font->Build Glyphs->Ligature/Custom name with component
chars, e.g., u12324_uE0100 will sub the two chars for the glyph

For PUA chars define in PUA then use PUA char with Glyph->Add
Component to reference PUA char in salt/ss01 or ligature
