In "What is an app?" in the first sentence it should say "Applications (or "apps") on a local network are tools that address specific community needs."
Needs an intro graphic
Second sentence - "messaging application" is redundant - maybe "messaging system" or something
Everywhere in the document - "--" should be a single dash or an em dash
The client / server diagram needs to be inside of a
tag to format correctly. It also has some extraneous formatting stuff in the tag left over from the Drupal days?
Heading "Smartphone application or computer application" should be more oriented towards the activity, maybe just "Name that tech" or "Name that app", since that is what you are doing below.
Name that tech activity - you should probably host the materials for that activity locally on this page. Did you touch base with Nina on using that activity here? I think she would be cool with it.
Local applications activity - are the diagrams below that examples? They may need to be described as such, otherwise they look out of place.
Local applications activity - you may need to define a few things for this, such as peer to peer. Also there might not be enough description (or enough diagrams) of the difference before this point, so people might have a hard time with the diagrams. Unless that is the point?
"How do applications work?" it says "For example, applications that live on a website - such as Social Media tools or webmail -- live on a web server." Rewrite to "For example, applications on a website - such as social media tools or webmail -- live on a special type of computer called a web server."
"Local Applications," - "It can live in many places - the Internet, the local network, or even be someone’s laptop." change to "It can be on a local network, even on someone’s laptop."
OSI Model / Image description
the physical devices you have to attach to buildings
the "mesh" that links the devices together wirelessly
then the applications is what you do with the network (which ideally goes beyond the technology – How do you "apply" the network? – though that can get a little confusing, especially visually)
I also separate out the information or data or media (I wish one of these or another single term could be the catchall for all three: "content"?) from the applications that we can use to create, gather, analyze, remix and transmit the information/data/media content.
Local App Server
"locate" is a confusing verb. I think most people here that as "find" not "put". Maybe the module should be "Putting an App Server on Your Network" (which also connects it with the terminology of of the "What is an app?" module)
The intro graphic might be a little busy. It would be better to use this graphic later on in the module, with a caption. Also, it shows an app on the Internet, rather than on the local network. Maybe intentional?
All "--" should be changed to em dashes or single dashes.
First link to "CCK Construction Elements" should be in "materials + supplies needed" above, and should be a bit shorter, I think you can drop the CCK part
The activity with the construction elements and questions isn't super clear. What is the diagram for? Are there examples you could generate? Why is it useful? How do the questions and diagram go together?
The assessment steps section needs an introduction. What is the assessment for? What is the output?
The picture of the map is upside down. What program were you using to flip it?
I think there is an unclosed tag in number 5 - the rest of the page is bold.
