🌞 Open Source Solar Forecasting Project – Volunteers Needed! 🌞 We're building an open-source solar forecasting pipeline using publicly available data to predict solar generation at the national level, starting with the UK. Tasks include identifying gridded Numerical Weather Prediction datasets, downloading this NWP data and transforming it into the preferred Zarr format, acquiring solar generation target data through APIs such as PVlive's solar generation and capacity API, creating pipelines for batching data and ML model experimentation We want to start in the UK, in order to benchmark with OCF results, and then lets expanding to lots of other countries. Roles range from data engineers and machine learning enthusiasts to software developers with Python expertise. If you're passionate about renewable energy and open-source collaboration, join us in advancing solar forecasting solutions for global impact! 🌍✨ #opensource #renewableenergy #solarforecasting |
@peterdudfield should we target social media posts to be January 1st 2025? We could make it a new years resolution for people to add sustainability to their resolutions. 😃 Maybe you post it initially on LinkedIn and each of us can then repost it on LinkedIn to expand the reach to our combined networks? I have many fortune 500 executives, data scientist and developers in my network (maybe some would be inclined to sponsor our open source work) 😉. Also, I will post it on PyTexas discord channel, my three Python Meetup boards (DFW, Milwaukee and San Francisco) and the CCAI for global reach. |
@emlweb is going to be well placed to help with this from our side as well I imagine, if she hasn't inputted already on the paragraph and how we should share it |

Edited the above here ^ how do you want them to join? Are they contacting OCF or an individual? Whichever option, we need to add a clear CTA in that isn't just 'join us', e.g. an email or link! Also let's post w/c 6th Jan, so we can be sure most people are back online from visiting their families/taking holiday over xmas. Thanks all! |
ah, yea, we should add a link to this github repo. |
