The META plugin doesn't copy the generated META file into the _build hierarchy as part of the build. This prevents that libraries can be used before they are finally installed (which is very convenient during development). The expectation is that I only need to set e.g. OCAMLPATH=_build/maybe/subdirs and I can immediately access the library, e.g. load it into the toploop.
This feature request has been migrated from artifact #1532 on forge.ocamlcore.org. It was assigned to user102.
