Please provide a clear description of problem this feature solves

This would make release validation simpler if the contents of tests/tests_data included the expected results from the previous releases.

This would make it easier to detect issues where a bug like #2002 doesn't trigger a failure, but the resulting data is invalid.

Describe your ideal solution

Store known good results in tests/tests_data
