When EARTHDATA_PASSWORD environment variable contains equal sign (U+003D) login fails. Resetting the password to something that does not contain it fixes the issue.

Wow, that's not good! Thank you for this report, we'll try to get back to you ASAP. Much of our maintenance team is busy with AGU right now, so it may not be as soon as we'd like :)
