Utility for analysing Standard MIDI Files?

One of the aims of this project is to enable software synths to be configured to use soundFonts that contain only the presets necessary in a particular situation. The synth should not have to load 130 presets if it only needs a grand piano.
Ideally, the synth itself should also not be cluttered with controls that are not going to be used.

Playing Standard MIDI files is a common scenario, so it would be useful to have a utility which would analyse Standard MIDI files, and tell the host's author which controls and presets are really needed.
