consider creating a backup of package.json when using schematics

what is the policy towards rewriting existing settings? do we silently rewrite it? what we do if we find existing configs in package.json or .rc files for the schematics we implement (e.g. husky) ? do we prompt a user for action? rewrite? create a backup of package.json (and retrieve it from schematics)?
