there are some irregularities in HTML test book. regarding pl-lists with * as dot markup. Check what can be done.

If the list already contains dots (a preformatted list), and you don't want to insert additional bullets/numbers automatially, then you can try adding th list-style-type-none class to the list element (ul/ol). This is the same as preformatted lists in DTBook (<list type="pl">).
