did you try again after some time to exclude a temporary network or server hick-up here?

Yeah, I did that. I also experienced that problem in older 3.x versions.

This is a brand new Macbook (Firewall disabled, allowing Nextcloud to search for devices in local network) but I still have this problem.

Do you know the update url by any chance, so I can rule out a network issue?

Which release channel do you have set? As noted in #6814 using "stable" fixed it for me. It was set to "daily" for some reason on mine.

Stable fixed it.

Why is "daily" the default and not "stable"?
