⚠️ This issue respects the following points: ⚠️

  • This is a bug, not a question or a configuration/webserver/proxy issue.
  • This issue is not already reported on Github (I've searched it).
  • Nextcloud Server is up to date. See Maintenance and Release Schedule for supported versions.
  • I agree to follow Nextcloud's Code of Conduct.

Bug description

Nextcloud client on the Mac reports:

Server replied with an error while reading directory "aaa/bbb/ccc/ eee" : Operation canceled
Directory not found /home/myself/nextcloud/aaa/bbb/ccc/ eee

There is no such directory ( eee with leading space) on either my mac, not the server. The server has directory eee without the leading space.

I have tried:

  • restart the client
  • remove the client-side directory and resync
  • re-index the entire server
    Same problem remains.

Steps to reproduce

Happens every time with my data, but I do not know how to reconstruct with new data.

Expected behavior

No sync error, or sync error resolves itself.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem on a Mac OS with version 3.4.4.
The version of my nextcloud server is 23.0.4.
Here is my application :

Enabled:
  - accessibility: 1.9.0 => same version
  - activity: 2.15.0 => same version
  - calendar: 3.0.4 => in version 3.2.2
  - circles: 23.0.0 => in version 23.1.1
  - comments: 1.13.0  => same version
  - contacts: 4.0.7 => in version 4.1.0
  - contactsinteraction: 1.4.0  => same version
  - dashboard: 7.3.0 => same version
  - federation: 1.13.0 => same version
  - files_sharing: 1.15.0 => same version
  - firstrunwizard: 2.12.0 => same version
  - logreader: 2.8.0 => same version
  - nextcloud_announcements: 1.12.0 => same version
  - notifications: 2.11.1 => same version
  - password_policy: 1.13.0 => same version
  - photos: 1.5.0 => same version

  - recommendations: 1.2.0 => same version
  - sharebymail: 1.13.0 => same version
  - support: 1.6.0 => same version
  - text: 3.4.0 => in version 3.4.1
  - theming: 1.14.0 => same version
  - user_status: 1.3.1 => same version
  - weather_status: 1.3.0 => same version

There is not log from the nextcloud application or from the webserver.

The solution for me was to downgrade the client desktop version to 3.4.1.

The same error - Manjaro latest of today. All broken (flatpak, aur, official) when there is some sort of whitespace involved it fails with file not found.
Sync on MacOS and Windows are fine, only Linux client is broken.

"Fix": 3.4.1 with appimage - works so far.

I didn't see that on Arch using 3.4.4. However I encounter a probably similar issue since the upgrade to 3.5.0.
