Can't retain URLs...

I'm not a coder, but I really really need to convert my illustrator docs to html for two clients. Ran the js script... works great... but is there any way to create and retain URL links within the ai file? I first tried creating a slice with the URL, and then a placing it on a separate layer, neither idea worked.
