Scalability Protocols RFCs

This repository contains RFCs for the Scalability Protocols (colloqually known as "nanomsg", although nanomsg is only the reference implementtion.)

The acronym "RFC" means "request for comments", and refers in this context to a document detailing protocol level details in order to ensure that multiple implementations can be developed that are compatible. It also sets the standard for "conforming" implementations, indicating what must and must not be done to produce compatible implementations of the protocols that can interoperate.

Status

As of this date, all of the nanomsg protocols are to be considered in "draft" form, although some of the protocols have been unchanged for years.

NOTE: This repository is in its infancy. Many RFCs may be missing still. The intent is to replace the rfc/ subdirectory of the nanomsg repository, but if a document is not hear, look there.

Process

Submitting new RFCs, or updates to existing RFCs, follows the Pull-Request process used on github. At this time, the maintainer of these documents is [email protected], who is also the principle maintainer for three of the existing implementations of these protocols.
