Especially with elderly couples, but also small children, not all people own a personal smartphone.

If the Coronacheck app would support multiple personas, QR-codes for a partner or child could be included and all could participate in social life using a single phone.

This sounds like a lot of rework for a limited use-case. You could also use the paper version. Or if you really like to have it stored on the phone, store the QR-code as a pdf-document, image or in a loyalty card wallet (I've tested https://f-droid.org/en/packages/protect.card_locker/ to work). I'm not part of the development team, so don't consider this an official answer.

This is something we are considering. For the time being, the paper option works. Also I have heard that people managed to use the Island app to install coronacheck multiple times for different users. We don’t officially support that and haven’t tested it, but might be something you could look into.

Interesting. I'll give it a try.

Another alternative for many elderly people would be if they're allowed to take a screenshot of their own screen. Currently screenshot is disallowed "for security". I wonder what security risk is avoided this way.

You have no idea how many elderly pairs have only one mobile phone.
