is it somehow trying to run all cells at the same time instead of in sequence?

This error occurs when I try to queue up a cell to be executed when another cell is still executing.

This is a problem with a recent update to the Jupyter extension rather than a problem with VScode itself. I recommend just downgrading the version of your Jupyter extension to one where this problem no longer persists.

FYI @DonJayamanne I was having this issue. I switched to pre-release version of the Jupyter extension, and the problem seems to have gone away.

Probably, switching to pre-release version has solved this problem.

I am having the same issue now and then and it is annoying to say at least. I have to restart the whole vscode in the middle of doing some modelling.

please could you file a new issue and ensure you enable logging and then share the logs

Please could you enable logging as follows:

• Open settings & go into Jupyter->Logging
• Change the value to verbose
• Reload VS Code,
• Attempt to repro the issue & then copy the output from the Jupyter output panel.
