Issue connecting over wifi

Hi, i'm trying to connect over wifi from my android to my phone, but when i go into side band on my debian machine i see this for connectivity.

and i don't see anything on the announcement stream. both devices are on the same wifi network.

Make sure the firewall on your Debian machine does not block. Can't tell you the specific rules right now.

On Android, connectivity and interface settings are managed from the Connectivity menu option.

On desktop operating systems, interfaces and RNS configuration is managed system-wide in the Reticulum configuration file, by default located at ~/.reticulum/config.

On desktop, you can view full Reticulum interface stateus by using the rnstatus command. You can also see this inside the Sideband application by going to Utilities -> Reticulum Status.

On both Android and desktop operating systems, the AutoInterface interface will be loaded and enabled by default. Unless there's something on your network or operating system blocking the traffic, the two devices should be able to communicate without any further configuration, just using the default config.

You can verify that the devices can see each other by running rnstatus and checking the Peers field for your AutoInterface:

    Traffic   : ↑0 B    0 bps

If the AutoInterface is up, but showing no peers on both devices, there's probably something blocking the traffic.

can confirm this doesn't work across 2 phones either, so it must be some network thing? How can i find what is blocking?

If your WiFi is blocking multicast packets, AutoInterface instances won't be able to discover each other. Most devices allow multicast by default.

Some devices have a setting for enabling/disabling multicast traffic.

You wouldn't believe the number of wireless routers nowadays that come with client isolation enabled. Or maybe you would. I think I remember reading something about manufacturers now realizing all the IoT crap on people's WiFi networks is starting to become a security issue.
