Actually, with the schematics and layer pdfs one can (thoughly) understand/follow the design and with the STEP file one may even be able to reproduce it but for being fully open-source, in my opinion, you should also publish the real KiCad/Eagle/whatever source file. The hard guys would maybe even argue to use a publicly accessible tool like KiCad so everyone can easily understand/follow the design and may also modify.

To that end, we will release all design documentation to our development team once our campaign is over and we begin shipping beta units.

I'd really appreciate this as it was one big reason to back your Kickstarter campaign!
