terminal doesn't exit when qemu does

There seems to be a "false" read EOF at the beginning, which we don't want to exit from, followed by a later read EOF that will happen when we quit qemu.

It seems ideal, though, that the terminal windows would close automatically upon exit from qemu, rather than having to be manually killed with ^C in each.
