No new game Half-Life

I have copied over the value directory to my /ports/half-life directory, and Half-life starts, but New Game is greyed out. Any ideas?

I had the same issue.
I then started the game on my Computer and saved the progress after 2 seconds.
Then I copied the valve folder and unzipped the files into that same folder, replacing all the files that already existed.
After that, I could start a new game.

However, now it crashes after it loads the first time during the intro scene.
