I don't know python that well but can code. I plan on adding a lot of features if you would like to build a pi dash cam to working functions. I plan on just using my headunit as a HDMI output only. I'll add code to start the program on ignition of the car, ODB input, 1 camera USB input so far and whatnot. Make it better than the other python pi projects. and steal this layout a bit http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61C1zRHIdrL._SL1019_.jpg

Hi MrPlow254,

That sounds like a really good idea. I just got the camera to work on the pi. I am able to record, though without any sound, and the output is the raw h264 format. I am planing to find a easy way to sync with sound and change output to the common avi, and have it loop stored on a USB drive. Basically, user can unplug the USB at anytime, pi should detect when USB is plugged in and automatically start to record, etc.

cool (:

I personally would use h264 over avi so an option would be nice between the two. I own the raspberry pi 2 b and the raspberry pi b. My camera is the logitech c920 so has a built in mic. I plan on using an external hard drive over USB as well. So many option can be tested on my end of the code. I should be free all summer I have a few exams to still take though. you can text me on skype live:smith.1517

The photo I have attached to the original post is a software overlay of separate data files of information about the video that sync together after the fact. It would be nice to have Time/Date/some ODB options to be encoded with the frame on render. I have motion installed right now just to test all the hardware
