Battery Question #4
Comments
It'll need to be powered of course. It's important that the power supply
you use (which I think he says is better as a battery than mains to prevent
noise) puts out the same voltage and can deliver at least the same current.
If it can do higher that's fine too. But the mAh don't need to be as high.
Higher mAh means a better battery life, that's all.

I want to buy the hegduino-v2 which is in stock at
https://www.crowdsupply.com/alaskit/hegduino-v2 .. However, it states
"battery not included" and the battery listed below is no longer available.
1. Is having the battery a requirement to make it work?
2. Will the battery become available again?
3. If not, can I get any old "1000mAh LiPo battery" from Amazon to use
with it?
Thanks!
Sean

Thanks for the reply. I literally know nothing about these batteries and how to recharge them. Would this battery work? Any recommendations? |
I'm not sure what connectors you'd use for that, and would have to check
the battery voltage recommended by Josh. You can change the connector but
better if you can get one that works with the connectors in the HEGDuino.
I'll look in more detail tomorrow. The current it can put out is a little
harder to find

I mean in general it can be harder to find that detail but not too tricky

Thanks! I have an old Toomim nIR HEG headband but my Neurobics unit is destroyed. I need to start doing HEG with my daughter. Any help getting the hegduino-v2 up and running would be greatly appreciated. |
I'd love to get my son into neurofeedback too, but I'm not sure if I'm better off with EEG since I've found more research for that. But HEG is exciting, too. Anyway, sorry for the late response. I was getting into the weeds a bit but I think any battery that works for the ESP32 should do it, since that's the MCU (microcontroller) that's in the HEGDuino. But I'm assuming that all the components are powered by the MCU. I'll try dig into the schematics a bit more to get a definite answer, since they're could be other circuitry stepping voltages up or down. The battery you linked is 7.4V which would burn an ESP32 hooked straight to its 5V or 3V3. The crowd supply page doesn't seem to say what voltage the battery is so I'll have to look closer. |
FYI. I started with HEG. I had good effects but I think I did it wrong. Long story but I think I would've been better off training FPZ than FP1 and FP2. Speaking of EEG, I've gotten great results from Neuroptimal EEG Neurofeedback. So much so that my sister's clinic bought two of them and plan to start using them on clients. You can rent the units for about $900 - $1000 for a month and train yourself and your whole family unlimited during that time. Lot's of us tried it out in our immediate circle of family and coworkers and many reported really positive benefits, especially longer sleep and clearer thinking. A local psychologist is very interested and is about to test out the Neuroptimal on herself after my daughter completes about 40 sessions on one my sister bought. When she's done I want her to try HEG at FPZ too. I plan to use HEG for "maintenance" on us both. Thanks again. |
Ok, so to simplify even further, the getting started guide says to plug it in to USB. So a powerbank will do the job ;) As for the sensor positions... I've a lot to learn there. I've a B. Eng in electronics and am good with tinkering, so I'm going for these cheap open source options. That rental sounds cheaper than getting a therapist but I'm really strapped with some neurological issues I've got, so here I am ha |
You want a JST PH 2.0 type Li-Po battery. They will recharge via USB if plugged into the ESP32 I am not making these anymore while I work on a new design with a bit more vetting however. |
Well, you have it from the man himself! Thanks, Josh! |
Thanks! |
I know you're busy. If I place an order on crowd supply (they say the head bands in stock), will someone be available to fill the order and mail it or is it shipped out by CrowdSupply? |
