New articles shouldn't have a default category preselected

I believe there's a flaw in how Joomla handles categories with new articles, banners or contacts. That is: a category is required when creating an article. But unlike most 3rd party components, the first category is already selected with the first category in the list. Other components have "Select category" as a first option, thus enforcing the user to make a selection. In core Joomla (articles, banners, contacts) a user can just hit save, without selecting the correct category.

It is inconsistent making something required and already having a default selection at the same time.
