How do I make it so that mpv starts in fullscreen everytime instead of just the first time?

Got nearly everything working with my setup except this.

I start mpv shim.
Go on the web ui and click play on an episode.
mpv opens in fullscreen and system switches focus to it, awesome. (I have fullscreen=yes in my mpv.conf)
If I proceed to close mpv either with command+w or command+q or q (I'm on MacOS) and try to play another episode mpv is now windowed and my system won't switch its focus to it. How do I make it behave like it did the first time?
