I suggest that Syrian flag needs to be updated to reflect current changes

Specifications of the Syrian independence flag:

  • Three horizontal stripes: green (top), white (middle), black (bottom)
  • Three red stars centered on white stripe
  • Standard flag proportions

How it would look like in Twemoji-styled flag (Edited using GIMP 2.10.38):
Updated Syrian Flag twemoji

There is an issue #495 in the googlefonts/noto-emoji repository

Well, this is in fact how I found out about the Syrian government collapse.

This isn't as easy as Mauritania's flag change: Mauritania's flag change didn't also involve a regime change that needed to be recognized by the international community.

As with our usual approach for flag changes caused by regime changes, we're going to hold out and see what happens first. For a better understanding as to why, check out this Emojipedia blog post that someone also linked in the Noto repo comments for this issue.

We'll leave this open until we decide what to do.
