As mentioned in #51, Appendix A ("Possible VOTable extensions") has a number of things that are not consistent with the current state of VOTable, other standards or intended uses.

As this appendix was somewhat speculative, perhaps it could be reduce to listing common patterns that have evolved with VOTable, or indeed removed entirely. For parts that are still considered valuable, we should certainly update the examples to be compliant with current standards and guidance.

I agree with removing it. It's very tempting to just rip it out now for v1.5, but I'm not sure the best way to change the several references to it in the text (and don't really have a moment to try).

If anyone feels like it would actually be a clean removal and has time to make a PR soon, I would support it, but am also comfortable waiting for v1.6.

That sounds like a really good plan, i.e., let's remove Appendix A in v1.6 and replace it with an implementation note with updated guidance.
