Circuit sample & cable

Serial communication sample circuit

The design below is the one i currently use for my projects:

Components description

  • R1, R4, R7, R10: Pull down resistors for driver enable pin. These rsistors put to GND the DE pin of the RS485 transceivers, making them behave in read mode as default.

  • R2, R3, R5, R6, R8, R9, R11, R12: Pull down/up resistors for maintain differential levels on the RS485 bus (as far i understood)

  • RT1, RT2: Line termination resistors.

  • 4-wire cable: A bus cable made of (at least) 4 wires. Depending on availability i use a CAT5 cable or a 2+2 cable (used by professional alarm systems)
