Can somebody lead me through setting it up with a sub domain?
Seems like I have tried everything and I don't see what i'm doing wrong.

Will I need to use a CNAME to not use a long domain extension?

You need to give more details, are you using your own domain for that?

Yes my own domain.
But I do not want to host it on the top level domain.
