Conversion of BCNSHP=4 (lattice beacon)

Clause 12.3.1 of the conversion document contains 2 instances of the following bullet:

• The S-101 attribute nature of construction includes the new enumerate value 11 (latticed). This information is encoded in S-57 on BCNSPP using the mandatory attribute BCNSHP value 4 (lattice beacon), which is not an allowable value for the mandatory attribute beacon shape in S-101. Data Producers will be required to evaluate their converted S-101 data and populate beacon shape with an appropriate allowable value.

I suggest changing the wording to explicitly indicate that BCNSHP value 4 will be automatically converted to nature of construction value 11 .

To avoid systematic manual editing of the S-101 data, I also suggest automatically populating beacon shape as empty (null) in such a case (multiplicity for beacon shape is (1,1)). (I don't see any current allowable value that could be used). Another option (that would require proposal to the S-101PT) would be to change the multiplicity for beacon shape to (0,1) in S-101 and then not populate beacon shape.

Thus, I suggest the following new wording:

• The S-101 attribute nature of construction includes the new enumerate value 11 (latticed). This information is encoded in S-57 on BCNSPP using the mandatory attribute BCNSHP value 4 (lattice beacon), which is not an allowable value for the mandatory attribute beacon shape in S-101. During the automated conversion process, attribute BCNSHP value 4 (lattice beacon) will be converted to S-101 attribute nature of construction with value 11 (latticed) and S-101 mandatory attribute beacon shape will be populated as empty (null). Where S-57 attribute NATCON already contains one or more values, value 4 will be added to these values for nature of construction during the automated conversion.
