Already supported in the dropdown, just create child pages and make sure they are visible (ie, numeric prefixed):

01.home/default.md
02.top-level/default.md
    01.a-sub-folder/default.md
    02.another-sub-folder/default.md
...

You're right.
This does not work for de (sub)sections (=side menu) in the Open Publishing Space theme, nor does it in the RTFM theme.
