Current Issue:

When creating a backup in LocalWP, users have the option to exclude specific folders/files from the backup. The logical assumption is that during the restore process, only the included folders/files from the backup would be restored, leaving the excluded ones intact.

However, the current restore process deletes everything from the site's app folder, including those folders/files that were intentionally excluded from the backup, which will result in a non-functional site.

Request:

Please enhance the backup and restore functionality to support partial backups and restores.

Specifically, when restoring a backup, the restore process should not delete (or overwrite) the folders/files that were excluded from the original backup.

Benefits:

  • Minimized Backup Sizes: Users can exclude unnecessary folders (e.g. /wp-admin/ and /wp-includes/) to keep backup sizes small and efficient.
  • Preservation of Excluded Files: Ensures that excluded folders/files remain intact after a restore, preventing unnecessary data loss and potential site downtime. (When needed, those excluded folders/files can be manually reinstalled or managed by the user.)

This feature would significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of the backup and restore process in LocalWP.
