Roadmap & Timeline:

  • 2018-07: Meetings + determination of content (see notes)
  • 2018-08-11: Develop requirements.txt (to Amanda)
  • 2018-08-26: Frame out SWC instructional template using learning objectives from meeting (notes).
  • 2018-09-10: GHW begins

2018-07-25 Tutorial Development Mtg (Anthony Arendt) Takeaways::

  • Focus on creating high-level understanding of approaches to common visualization tasks for geodata. Slippy maps, simple dataframe maps, etc.
  • Cartopy is useful to keep in there because of 1) projections + 2) close interopabilty with matplotlib. Issues: fiddly
  • Switch from Folium to Mapbox mapping library (as per conversation with Shay)
  • Consider demonstrating an already-created Tableau map as an example of a tool for EDA/presentations/engagement.
  • Possible consideration of holoviews/geoviews but is likely too in-depth for the audience.
