From Juha:

I agree with everything you said but still in the long run I think that we should consider to include write operations to the spec. It is not necessarily about opening write operations to outsiders but interoperability with other components. If write operations would follow spec you could develop other components that consume these and then (at least in theory) just plug and play things together. I understand that all implementation are not going to need these operations so somehow we should be able to mark them as an optional.
