Ports 9090-9093 and security.

The documentation for remote development says to open ports 9090-9093 but doesn't explain why or what security implications might exist. It would be useful to know why these ports are needed and what security issues may exist in opening them on an internet facing server. Namely is sensitive information being passed (files), is there authorization, and is there encryption.
