Immediate freeze of OBS 27.2.1 when applying filter

Steps to reproduce:

1. create new empty scene collection (has default 1 empty scene)
2. add my Camlink device as vidoe capture device
3. add Virtual Camera filter to cam. OBS freezes as soon as I hit OK after entering filter name.

Funny thing is, after a forced restart of OBS, the filter works fine (I can select Virtual Camera in my video chat apps just fine).
Removing the filter and adding it again causes again instant freeze.
I installed the plugin just before 27.2.1 rolled around, so never did have much time to test, but I don't remember seeing this many problems with it.. certain not this instant freeze.
