I was wondering if you had considered supporting private key authentication with SFTP? It looks like smart_open changes its authentication based on the presence of key_filename in connect_kwargs.

@ets I can help contribute to this. can you help with how to find current smart_open package version being used in this project? The setup.py mentions >=2.1 but there have been 5 major versions since then.
