I fear that the GoogleVoice server has changed something, as this
application, which worked for months, is now broken and does not report
notifications.

I just tried to download the software and it will not let me log in.  I am 
attaching a snapshot of the error code it produces.  Hopefully you will fix 
this...one of the most useful GV enhancement tools I've used.
