When setting up a connection with something like cloud-router-2-google-connection, you can't go on to configure BGP for the connection with Google because we don't expose the Equinix side ASN of the connection, nor do we let you provide your own ASN for the module to use. Either way, the google connection needs to be told what the Equinix side ASN is, either at create time or afterwards, so we need that number exposed.
If we had the connection id we could maybe figure out the ASN, but we don't...see #138

@cprivitere , similar vein to #137 and #138 . We'll look into improving outputs of the base modules, but the example directories are not intended to be complete solutions at this time.
I'll bring this up internally with the team to see if we're looking to evolve them further beyond just showing how the base module can be used though.
