Guiding Principles

I wrote down a set of Guiding Principles for what (I think) the project stands for. This is what I have in my head when I'm reviewing PRs, or making changes myself. Thought it would be a good resource for both new and existing contributors to have a set of guidelines that let you make these calls on your own.

The idea is to keep these in mind when we make decisions about new features, products, or changes.

Obviously, not exhaustive - this is just a first draft, and open to feedback. I think there should be a few more points about API, and the "multiple vendor" problems we've been having.
